Remodeling your home brings up questions that Im sure most have and I will make an attempt to answer some of them with the help of resources for you to determine whether remodeling your home is to your advantage or not. In a previous article, Should I Remodel How Much Do I Get Back, I showed the return on your dollar as well as the top remodeling rooms that gave the home owner return on their dollar spent. Just as a reminder, the top return on your dollar for remodeling when selling your house are: Kitchen, bathrooms, and additional Bedrooms (increasing square footage). According to Realty Times, there is a surplus of materials due to Katrina which seems to indicate a lower price when it comes to remodeling costs the proof of course is in finding out what those costs are.

Get three references, review past work
Get at least three bids
Get a written contract & dont sign anything until you understand all the terms
Pay only 10% down, or $1000, which ever is less
Dont let payments get ahead of the work. Keep records of your payments
Dont make final payment until you are satisfied with the job
Dont EVER pay cash
Keep a job file of all papers relating to your project
